왜 미국과 프랑스는 미얀마 쿠데타의 자금줄이 되고 있는 가스수익금을 제재하지 않는가?
미얀마 쿠데타가 2월1일로 1년이 됩니다. 미얀마민주주의를 지지하는 한국시민단체 모임은 지난 12월20일부터 미국,유럽,호주 그리고 미얀마의 23개 단체들과 함께 ‘미얀마 군부에 대항하는 글로벌 액션’을 구성하여 미국과 프랑스에 가스수익금에 제재를 가할 것을 촉구하는 캠페인을 진행하고 있습니다. 지금까지 국제사회는 미얀마 쿠데타의 잔혹한 범죄를 막기 위해 가스수익금에 제재를 가해야 한다는 목소리를 꾸준하게 내어 왔습니다.
이번 컨퍼런스를 통해서 왜 제재를 가해야 하는 지 뿐만이 아니라, 왜 가스전사업에 참여하는 기업들이 쿠데타의 공범이 될 수 밖에 없는 지, 가스수익금이 실제로 어떻게 군부에 영향을 끼치고 있는 지에 대해서 알아보는 시간을 가지려고 합니다.

The Myanmar junta is able to fund the military and purchase weapons to slaughter civilians with funds from natural gas projects collected by the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE). If sanctions were imposed on gas revenues, the effect on the junta’s finances would be significant. Civil society organizations in Myanmar, South Korea, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom want to urge the United States and France to impose sanctions on gas revenues through a global campaign. As part of the campaign, we’re holding a conference to discuss more details about the issues. The topics below will be discussed at the conference.
